Giant lymph node hyperplasia (Castleman's disease) is not a common disease to otolaryngologist. Recently, we have experienced three cases of the hyaline-vascular type of giant lymph node hyperplasia of the neck.
The etiology of giant lymph node hyperplasia is uncertain, but may be caused by altered immunologic response secondary to viral infections, drugs, or others.
Giant lymph node hyperplasia is divided into the hyaline-vascular type and the plasma cell type in histologic feature.
The plasma cell type often shows systemic manifestations, especially anemia, fever, hypergammaglobulinemia. On the other hand, systemic symptoms manifestations of the hyalinevascular type is rare.
We report two cases of the hyline-vascular type of giant lymph node hyperplasia without systemic manifestations and a case accompanying clinically POEMS syndrome. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:11, 1995)
